Course Description
International Trade is a fascinating subject; in essence it deals with the international sale of goods for commercial purposes. International sales involve a complicated network of contracts, namely contracts of sale, carriage, insurance and finance. In this course you will see how trade transactions relate to each other and how they operate in a commercial context in order to prepare you for the realities of international trade disputes. During the course you will discuss and see the legal problems arising in cases where the rights and obligations of the buyer and seller under a sale contract are not consistent with the terms of other interlinked contracts along with other aspects of this exciting area of the law.
The Course Is Composed of 4 Modules
Module A: Export sales on English law terms
Module B: Carriage of goods by sea in international trade law
Module C: Bankers’ letters of credit
Module D: United Nations sales Convention 1980 (CISG)
About Module A ‘Export sales on English law terms’
The aim of Module A is to give you a thorough knowledge and understanding of the main principles of export sales on English law terms and to provide you with basic tools to understand the functioning of overseas sales and the legal and commercial background against which they are carried out. By the end of this module, you should be able to understand the legal nature and the many features of FOB (free on board) and CIF (cost insurance freight) contracts, grasp the peculiar allocation of risk of damage and loss to the goods in shipment sales, and define the interaction between the law of international sale of goods and the law of carriage of goods.
We will provide you with the required study guides written by eminent UoL professors and researchers, leaders in the field, with up to date reading materials, including articles and case law. Students registered in the LLM program will receive additional textbooks and will be assisted with additional sessions focusing on past UoL-LLM examinations.

Judge Zaher Hamade is currently a General Prosecutor in Beirut. According to the Lebanese legal system, public prosecution is part of the judiciary. He was appointed in his current position in 2017. He was a Former General Prosecutor in the Bekaa district from 2010 till 2017.
Prior to his current position, Hamade was a counselor in the court of appeal in South Lebanon with general jurisdiction. Earlier, he was appointed as a single judge to oversee the matters of special urgency (Juge des Référés), civil, and commercial cases at the court of Aley Mount Lebanon.
Previously, Hamade was a single judge at Saida court, overseeing matters of lease, special urgency, and execution. He was also a single judge at the court of Jezzine with general jurisdiction.
Hamade conducted several studies in the areas of criminal intention, judiciary expertise, procedures of appeal, and real estate contracts.
Hamade graduated from the Institute of Judiciary Studies in 1999. He holds a Law degree from the Lebanese University, finishing a Masters in Law from USEK (Université Saint Esprit de Kaslik). He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Studies from the American University of Beirut and a bachelor in Clinical Psychology from the Lebanese University.
